The U.S. is on track to show positive Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in this current 3rd quarter. Many indicators are signaling an economic recovery for example: Factories are boosting output and U.S. manufacturing is recovering. Construction spending is increasing and housing looks to be bottoming. Second quarter company earnings were much better than expected. And don’t forget the cash-for-clunkers program will boost auto sales. These are some of the reasons why I expect our main measure of output - GDP to increase by 2% in the 3rd quarter of 2009, which technically means the recession is over. Now keep in mind that an economic recovery does not mean the stock market will go higher. The S&P 500 is up nearly 50% since the March lows and most of the positive economic data has already been priced in. Beware of stepping into the stock market at these levels.
